The Linden GalleryDiscover The Linden Centre

In cosmopolitan St Kilda...

Art lovers are truly spoilt for choice when seeking out galleries in Melbourne - with world renowned gems like the NGV, the Ian Potter Centre and the Australian Centre for Contempory Art all calling the city home. You'll also find a multitude of smaller less well known galleries that cover every spectrum of the arts.  One such favorite is The Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts which can be found on a leafy and quiet stretch of St Kilda's Acland St - a welcome respite from the usual buzz and noise that St Kilda generates.

Housed within a majestic former mansion, The Linden features 4 intimate gallery spaces, each light-filled and featuring oversized windows that look out into the property's serene gardens. The Linden showcases contemporary arts with a focus on innovative works and emerging artists, with new exhibitions commencing every 4 - 6 weeks, and is particularly well known for its annual Postcard Show which is open to all artists and encourages unlimited creativity across all mediums.

Experience Eureka Sky Deck

Easy walking distance from our hotel...

Located alongside the Yarra River and in the heart of the city, the Skydeck 88 offers Melbourne’s tallest observation deck with 360 degree views of the city, and the world’s only “edge” experience.

‘The edge’ allows you to enter a glass cube which extends 3 metres out from the building, providing extraordinary views across Melbourne.

You can purchase take-away coffee, soft drinks and snacks at the venue’s SkyCafe. And the Skydeck shop stocks a selection of Melbourne and Australian Souvenirs to take home as a memento of your visit to Australia’s tallest residential tower.

For more information contact Eureka Sky Deck.

Lygon StreetEat Pasta on Lygon Street

Trams direct to Lygon Street from our front door...

Lygon Street in the suburb of Carlton (a short walk from Melbourne’s CBD) is renown for its fabulous Italian eateries, alfresco dining (which is heated in winter) and vivacious atmosphere. It’s a real experience to trawl the length of Lygon Street in search of the best place to recline and people-watch whilst enjoying a plate of fabulous, authentic Italian pasta.

You’ll be inundated by spruikers wooing you to their venues with “free glass of wine” or “special table” outside - their energetic personalities are all part of the charm of this unique experience.

Visit Federation Square

Easy walking distance from our hotel...

Federation Square (known as “Fed Square” colloquially) has received a lot of both positive and negative comment, and people generally either love or loathe it. It was one of the most significant architectural developments undertaken in Melbourne and Australia, and is a spectacle of glass, steel and desert-coloured stone that catches the sun beautifully.

'Fed Square' hosts a number of major attractions, including the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia (the home of Australian Art). It’s also the major civic and cultural venue for Melbourne, hosting over 2,000 events and activities each year including Australia Day celebrations, Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and the Melbourne Comedy Festival among many others.

The National Gallery of Victoria is so large that it’s divided into the Australian and the International collections, which are housed at separate venues. The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is at Federation Square, home of Australian art, and NGV International at St Kilda Road, housing the gallery's magnificent international artworks.

The Ian Potter Gallery is a must-see to give you a broad insight into Australian art. You’ll find a great selection of colonial to contemporary art, and frequent exhibitions focused on Australian artists. In addition to this there are lectures, musical performances, film screenings and other social and cultural events that complement the exhibitions.

Easy walking distance from our hotel...

You can even walk into the old Neighbours set! Melbourne's award-winning Museum is a must-see when visiting Melbourne, and one of our favourite cultural destinations. It’s located in the Carlton Gardens next to the Royal Exhibition Building, and is an exciting and innovative attraction. You’ll find permanent and touring exhibitions, interactive performances and events, relaxing cafés, an IMAX Theatre, gift shop, and undercover parking.  But plan to stay for at least 2 hours or you’ll leave disappointed – there’s just so much to see!
